Girl names that start with T is a category that has hardly been heard from since the days of Terry, Tammy, Tracy, Tori and Toni. As a matter of fact, there is only one T girl in the current Top 200 list, and that’s (the fading) Taylor at Number 192.
But there are some wonderful, offbeat, T girl names and here is a baker’s dozen of the best.
Talia
Natalia is officially in the Top 100 now for the first time, but short-form
Talia doesn't seem to be riding that same wave of popularity. Staying fairly consistent in the 300s since the late 90s,
Talia is derived from the Hebrew elements tal, meaning “dew,” and yah, in reference to God. The Greek name
Thalia is another lovely choice, the name of one of the three Graces in Greek mythology.
Tallulah
You can't get much spunkier than
Tallulah.
Delilah and
Lila are popular as ever, as are names with the "Lu" sound such as
Luna and
Lucy, so why not
Tallulah?
Tallulah is a modern hipster favorite, used by several celebrities for their daughters, but has yet to make the charts. With its slight southern charm and oh-so-cute nickname potential (
Lula!
Lulu!), we see
Tallulah rising in the coming years.
Tamsin
We don't see
Thomas switching to the girl's side any time soon as some other traditionally masculine names have done, but don't discount his female variations.
Tamsin, a short form of
Thomasina, has had some use in the UK over the years but never made its way to the States. The equally attractive, medieval Cornish spelling of the name is
Tamsyn. This would make a fitting name for a twin, as per the name's meaning, or would make a clever honor for a grandpa
Thomas.
Tanvi
This Sanskrit name means "the epitome of femininity", but doesn't feel too frilly or overdone.
Tanvi is simple, but distinctive. Tanvi Shah, the first Indian woman to win a Grammy, is a notable bearer of this name, and Tanvi Azmi is an Indian actress.
Tess
Saintly
Teresa may have peaked in the 60s, but the punchy short form
Tess feels fresh and ready to stand on her own.
Tess has a lot of depth and character, despite only being one-syllable. The iconic literary Tess is the beautiful heroine of Thomas Hardy's Tess of the D'Urbervilles, the moral center of the novel. If you want a name that feels a bit less nickname-y, you can also opt for the sweet
Tessa.

Thais
This chic Greek name is nothing if not dramatic, with namesakes including a lover of Alexander the Great as well as the heroine in a Jules Massenet opera based on an Egyptian saint. Often spelled with an umlaut — two dots — over the "i",
Thais is pronounced "ty-EES" and is currently popular in France and Spain.
Theodora
This vintage name is clunky in the most charming way. As
Theodore has entered the Top 10 for boys,
Theodora has been climbing on the girls side, entering the Top 100 in 2019. Short form
Thea is hot as well, shooting all the way up to the 300s. Along with
Thea,
Theodora has the cute boyish nickname options of
Teddy and
Theo, as well as quirky vintage
Dora. An even more obscure option is
Theodosia, brought into the spotlight by the hit musical Hamilton.
Thisbe
Lovers
Pyramus and
Thisbe from the myth retold by the Roman poet Ovid were the inspiration for Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, as well as countless other adaptations of the star-crossed lover's tale. Today the name of this tragic heroine would make a quirky, offbeat, lively name for a girl.
Thora
While Thora feels strong, from the assocation with the uber-masculine Norse god (and Avenger)
Thor to the meaning "thunder goddess", her sounds are actually quite soft.
Thora coasted along the bottom of the charts until falling off in the 1920s. The name is in line with vintage revivals like
Nora and
Cora that have been receiving a lot of love in recent years — However,
Thora makes much more of statement.
Tilly
Cutesy nickname
Millie is standing by herself in the Top 200 now, rising quickly in recent years. Sister name
Tilly is ready to follow the same trajectory.
Tilly, along with alternative spelling
Tillie, are short forms of the newly fashionable
Matilda, meaning "battle-mighty". A more eccentric, but equally adorable option is
Tilda.

Trixie
Sassy, spunky, and overall just a fun name —
Trixie is a short form of Latin
Beatrix, meaning "she who brings happiness". Trixie Belden is the thirteen-year-old heroine of an eponymous series in which she is a girl detective. The name
Trixie was also used recently on a loveable character in the show Call the Midwife.
True
One of the trendiest modern virtue names,
True was recently given to the daughter of Khloe Kardashian. While not yet in the Top 1000, it looks as though
True will be soon.
True really does have a lovely meaning as well as an attractive sound, and would make an especially sweet middle name.
Tuesday
Wednesday and
Sunday have started to gain some traction in recent years, but
Tuesday is an overlooked, quite quirky and offbeat, but genuinely lovely name for a girl. Actress Susan Ker Weld changed her name to
Tuesday, putting this formerly never-considered day of the week on our radars.
Tulia
While you can't go wrong with classic
Julia, it certainly doesn't make as much of a statement after well over 100 years of being in the Top 150.
Tulia, on the other hand, is truly unique. Like
Julia,
Tulia is of Latin origin, stemming from the Roman clan name
Tullius.
Tullia is an alternative spelling, and either way the name is feminine, graceful, and beautiful overall.
Twyla
This twinkling name brings to mind imagery of the word "twilight", but stems from a different origin.
Twyla is an English name meaning "woven by a double thread", and can also be spelled
Twila.
Twyla and
Twila were both on the charts through the 1960s until they fell off. Today the name is virtually unheard, despite the undeniably beautiful sound.
