Popular Names 2012: Guess the Top 10 and win!
Dec 5, 2025 9:19 AM

  SEE THE WINNERS BELOW!!!

The official list of U.S. Most Popular Names 2012 will be revealed later this week — Thursday afternoon or Friday morning, according to the Social Security press office —  and so in advance of that announcement, we’re asking YOU to predict:

What do you think will be the Most Popular Names for 2012?

Will Sophia hold onto the Number 1 spot she claimed last year?  Will Jacob retain his long-held crown?

  And if not, what WILL be Number 1 — and 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. and 10?

The first Berry to guess all Top 10 names for both sexes in correct order will win the gorgeous sterling silver and antiqued bronze double-charm necklace pictured here, soon to be offered exclusively in our Nameberry Store for $99, personalized with the names and/or dates of your choice.  If no one guesses the exact Top 10s, we’ll decide who comes closest.  Entries end at 11:59 PST TONIGHT, Wednesday, May 8.

In 2011, the last year counted,  these were the Top 10 names for girls and boys.

How do you see the order shifting, if at all? Do you predict any names will fall off, or leap onto the Top 10 for girls or boys? (For the full list of 2011 Top Names, go to the Social Security website.)

Beyond the girls’ and boys’ Top 10s, care to make any bigger predictions? New names on the Top 1000? Names making the biggest leaps up the national ladder?  No prizes beyond our praise and admiration (priceless).

Please note that only the FIRST person to guess the correct order will win the necklace.  But don’t worry if you make your guess and, because you’re not registered on the site yet, it’s held for moderation — all entries are timed by when they’re made, even if they show up on the site later.

  WE HAVE A CONTEST WINNER!!!

Congratulations to Cristinamariane who came closest to predicting the most names in the most correct order and will be receiving the beautiful charm necklace.  Runner-up  is Skizzo, who wins an advance copy of our forthcoming eBook. The Nameberry Guide to Off-the-Grid Names, which will be available soon in our store.

No one was able to guess the Top 10 lists exactly but both winners had 19 of the top 20 names, with Cristinamariane placing 9 in correct positionsand Skizzo had 7.

And hats off to the other Berries who were not far behind, in particular alphabetdem, samantha k, irishlady13, sophiekihm and munchkin227.

  THANKS TO ALL WHO ENTERED.

Thanks so much to all who entered–and hats off especially to those whose lists came so close!
